Bankstown Senior College - Well-being Program 2023

Staff and participants from the annual 2023 Well-being Program at Bankstown Senior College.

Our aim is to empower and inspire these young people, aged between 18 - 23, by expanding their awareness of all the aspects of life that contribute to the feeling of well-being and how to improve them, often things they are not educated on in their country of origin.

We had the privilege of recently spending 3 weeks delivering our annual Bankstown Senior College Well-being program.

We’ve been working with Bankstown Senior College since 2019 so this was the fourth time delivering the program.

The College provides secondary education to students of post compulsory age, new arrivals, refugees, re–entry students and those who have found it difficult to engage with education in a traditional setting.

Using the Collective Leisure Wheel of Well-being we guide them through experiential learning on: purpose, emotions, nourishment, relationships, environment, financial, spiritual, physical and growth.

Each year we iterate on the program based on feedback and how we feel it landed. One thing we found worked well last time was to bring in a Bankstown graduate that’s also a member of the CL team. This time Orlina Yalda joined us as a support for the students.

The most rewarding parts of this program are when the students share the changes that they make based on their learnings, as well as experiencing the receptivity of the students increase over the 3 weeks as they open up and engage more and more.

The program included meditation practice, movement, games, confidence building activities, student sharing and deepening their connection to one another.

Well-being of students is one of the top three concerns for any educational institution along with social isolation and learning outcomes.

Program Objectives

  • Enable students to flourish and fulfil their potential.

  • Develop an understanding of well-being and capacity to apply self-care.

  • Support the building of a well-being culture within the school.

  • Creating an inclusive, healthy community.
