Ironman Cairns 2022 - Pilot & Guide

Adaptive Sports Programs

David is the pilot and guide for the inspiring Tim Green who is legally blind training to compete in the Cairns Ironman 2022.

Whilst raising public awareness and funds for Stargardt’s disease. Over the next 6 months, their training will be carried out together helping them to learn from each other along the way. On 12 June 2022 at the Cairns Ironman, David and Tim will be tethered together for the 3.8km swim, riding a tandem bicycle for the 180km cycle, and tethered again for the 42km marathon run. Their goal is to complete the course in around 13½ - 14 hours – hopefully before the pubs close.

Our mission is to raise funding to support further medical research into reversing vision loss caused by mutation of ABCA4, and in doing so, hopefully allow affected children to have their dreams back.

Please become involved and help us in supporting those who are impacted by Stargardt’s disease. Here is the sponsorship page to donate and read Tim’s story.

Program Objectives

  • Remove barriers to participation in sport and physical activity.

  • Raise awareness and funds for Stargardt’s disease.

  • Inspire others to achieve their dreams no matter what their ability.
