Cumberland Active FEST 2023

The Collective Leisure team at Active Fest.

We were excited to partner with Cumberland City Council to deliver the Cumberland Active FEST on 12th April 2023 at Auburn Youth Centre (AYC) and Wyatt Park in Lidcombe. The event saw 136 children and their families come together for a day of fun activities.

Active FEST events are funded by the NSW Office of Sport and are designed to bring support to communities most impacted by COVID lockdowns. The events also aim to connect the community with local Active Kids providers and increase access to physical activity.

Cumberland Active FEST saw eight providers delivering a variety of activities including football, soccer, tennis football, orienteering, multi-sport and well-being activities.

Collective Leisure delivered eight multi-sport sessions with fun games to activate the children and build their self-esteem and get them moving.

We also had a well-being activity to promote young people’s understanding of health and well-being. They were asked to share what made them a “well-being”, someone that is happy and healthy. The children had a number of creative responses from their family to sports like swimming and dance, kindness and healthy food.

Family’s spent time picnicking around the grounds while their children played sport. There were a number of younger children so we set up an impromptu colouring table to entertain the youngsters which was very popular. Parents really enjoyed the event and there was a lot of positive feedback:

"Thanks for the day. It was really good. The police car with the sirens was brilliant. The kids loved it."

"It was good for the kids to get outside and get out of the house instead of sitting at home. A lot of kids don't have that option because of the cost so it was really good."

“The kids who participated were glowing and exhausted by the end of the day.”

Everyone enjoyed the catering from AYC and attendees received showbags with hats, drink bottles and books to take home.

It was a fantastic day and it was great to collaborate with the other providers Australian College of Physical Education, National Rugby League, GWS GIANTS, Creating Chances, Sky dance Studio, Western & Hills Orienteering and Auburn Youth Centre - AYC
