Liverpool Seniors Well-being and Social Group receives Commendation Award at 2024 Parks and Leisure Australia Awards for Community Based Initiative of the Year

Collective Leisure is honoured to have received the Commendation Award for our Liverpool Seniors Well-being and Social Group in the Community-Based Initiative of the Year category at the 2024 Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence.

These annual awards recognise outstanding programs and initiatives that have contributed significantly to the advancement of the Parks and Leisure industry through enhanced community connection and participation.

The Seniors Program has more than 120 individuals registered and runs three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Lurnea Community Hub in Liverpool.

The program is delivered by Collective Leisure on behalf of Liverpool City Council and is delivered in partnership with the South Western Sydney Local Health District to reduce social isolation and loneliness for seniors. Both Liverpool City Council and Wonderwood Cafe (onsite) collaborate to provide free refreshments for seniors after each session which fosters community connection and engagement. Other partners since the program’s inception have included Healthstin, COTA NSW, Wonderwood Cafe, Liverpool Academy of Music, Bhajiya Restaurant and Chi Chinese Healing College.

Activities include group exercise, art and technology classes, dance, chair yoga, tai chi, meditation and well-being sessions. The program is delivered entirely for free.
