In 2020 Tennis NSW and the NSW Government launched the ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund providing more than $240,000 in funding through Round 1 of the program for projects that support facility upgrades and drive participation.

The Fund will deliver more than $5 million in funding to tennis clubs, providers and venues as a result of Sydney hosting the ATP Cup Finals. Funding for categories 2 and 3 will be delivered through a grant program over three years in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Collective Leisure and Sydney Sports Management Group (SSMG) will be running a program, Smash Tennis, using tennis as the vehicle to provide support for people suffering from mental health issues in the local community. Category 3 provides funding for participation program development and delivery.

Richard Price from Sydney Sports Management Group said, “At SSMG we believe in order to deliver long term health and wellness impacts a partnership approach is required. We have partnered with Collective Leisure in the development and delivery of SMASH – a mental well-being initiative designed to support those living with a mental illness.”

Collective Leisure CEO, David Burns explains “Taking a systems approach and creating partnerships to enable well-being without boundaries is at the heart of Collective Leisure. Thanks to the Fund we’ve partnered with SSMG, Tennis NSW, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and others to design and deliver Smash Tennis – a mental well-being initiative”.

Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said Maroubra’s tennis had a proud history and the grant would ensure that legacy continued. “This project will benefit members of the local community, providing valuable mental health support through tennis.”

“The ATP Cup brought tennis’s superstars to Sydney. The Fund builds on that legacy through projects that support facility upgrades and encourages participation across NSW,” Mr. Lee said.

Tennis NSW CEO, Lawrence Robertson said, “We are pleased to be able to leverage off the ATP Cup to provide more playing opportunities for more people across NSW. The Legacy Fund will provide vital support to our grassroots to strengthen our sport further”.

The NSW Government, Tennis NSW and Sydney Sports Management Group are committed to ensuring funds from the ATP Cup Legacy Fund deliver for grassroots tennis and provide opportunities for local communities.

Round 2 of the ATP Cup Tennis Legacy Fund is currently open. NSW grassroots tennis can apply for up to $360,000 in grants for projects that improve community facilities and encourage participation. Applications 5.00pm, 26 April 2021.
