adsilogocolor.png

ADSI is a community based, non-profit organisation established to promote the principles of multiculturalism, access, equity and social justice. Alison Jones (Youth Worker for ADSI) expressed that her clients, many of which are young adult refugees, were struggling with changes to their learning environment due to Covid-19.

Alison championed the workshop with Collective Leisure. She consulted with her clients on what well-being topics from our wheel of well-being would help them to learn more about.

What we did

  • Consulted with Alison Jones on what would help her clients during this time

  • Designed and delivered the workshop based on requested topics

  • Included an extra Q&A for the attendees

What the session included

  • The benefits of meditation including a guided practice

  • How to optimise energy based on sleep, food and exercise

  • How to improve mental health and reduce stress

  • How to take care of your body whilst studying

Testimonial from Alison Jones

Thank you for the fantastic Well-being and Meditation Workshop that Collective Leisure ran for my refugee youth clients last month. I have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from my clients who were grateful for such a thoughtful and well-run session. It was very timely for a lot of my clients who have been under mounting pressure due to coronavirus and it's impacts and the pressures of job loss and schooling.

The meditation session was relaxing and informative and Jennifer provided practical tips so that the young people can do this in their daily life. David provided really specific and practical tips on how to incorporate healthy lifestyle choices into daily life such as improving sleep, exercise tips and healthy eating. This was really useful for my young people. It was really good that both David and Jennifer run an evidence-based practice and shared evidence supporting their tips so that the young people really understood why these things are important. I think this is good to help motivate the young people as they can more clearly see the benefits and the good outcomes of healthy habits. David ran a practical session on stretches and posture which is very important considering the increase of online schooling and work due to Coronavirus. Young people were really concerned about the impact of this increased time sitting in front of a computer so it was great for them to get some tips on how to stay active while doing this.

David and Jennifer are really mindful presenters and took the time to develop a thorough understanding of my client's needs before running the session. They stayed over time to answer questions and are really dedicated to helping others improve their well-being. They are engaging and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend Collective Leisure and their programs; they have been really beneficial for my clients.

Kind regards,

Alison Jones, Youth Worker - Capacity Building / Emergency Relief Caseworker
