Well-being Program

Collective Leisure was engaged to deliver self-care and well-being sessions for Feel the Magic, an Australian not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to create a world where children who are experiencing grief are supported to reach their full potential.

Three sessions were delivered in Canberra, Lake Macquarie and Dural at the Magic quarterly events.

The theme was ‘well-being, who’s looking after who’. The audience consisted of bereaved parents of a child’s death or a parental death. With single parents looking after multiple children and/or where the children have a bigger role looking after siblings and/or their parent

Program Objectives

  • Facilitate a conversation identifying the need for parents to look after their own well-being so they can be at their best to look after their children.

  • Promote prioritising taking care of the self to be more effective in taking care of others.

  • Teach techniques to improve listening and communication skills of the bereaved families.

  • Teach techniques to improve well-being.

Some feedback from participants in the well-being session.

“I found the afternoon session with my children was very powerful,”

“The communication session was excellent too”

“The parent session on Wellbeing proved very valuable to participants and reminded parents about self-care. Parents/Carers were able to be open and honest in a safe place and could share their challenges without judgement. For some, this activity touched a nerve as they realised they did no self-care and this was having a negative impact on them and their families. This session helped parents' priorities themselves and think about ways they can give themselves a break.”

“I got a lot out of the workshop that you did with us”

“Reconnecting with FTM as a family, and the self-care workshop was fantastic”
